Ammonia Reduction by Trees Project

This project was led by the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH) in collaboration with Forest Research, the Environment Agency, Lancaster University, the Lakes Free Range Egg Company and Cumbria Farm Environment Partnership.
The Ammonia Reduction from Trees (ART) project was carried out to provide new scientific evidence on tree planting to reduce the impact of ammonia emissions from farming, leading to better advice and support for farmers on ammonia mitigation.
Results of the project confirmed that targeting areas suitable for tree planting to reduce the impact of ammonia emissions should take into account prevailing winds and on-farm ammonia sources and trees should be planted on the downwind of these sources.: https://farmtreestoair.ceh.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2022-10/tree-shelter-belt-ART-Summary-Report-June-2022.pdf
